Suspect in Minneapolis woman's killing arrested in Ohio, awaiting extradition
The man arrested in connection with the suspicious death of 19-year-old Yadhira Romero Martínez was apprehended in Ohio.
That's according to an update from Minneapolis Police Department on Sunday afternoon, which states a 23-year-old man was taken into custody by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The arrest was made, police say, within eight hours of the man being identified as a suspect.
Martinez's body was found at a home during a welfare check in the 3000 block of 18th Avenue South Friday afternoon, with police saying her death appeared to have been from "unnatural causes."
In a GoFundMe page created by her cousin, it says that Martinez was last seen Thursday getting into a ride-share from work.
This has also not been officially confirmed by authorities, and there's no information at this point to suggest a ride-share driver was involved in her death.
Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder said the department's homicide team spent 90 minutes with Martinez's family on Sunday to brief them on the case. Martinez was born in the United States but had moved to Mexico with her parents, before she moved to Minnesota in January.
The suspect is being held in Ohio and state officials are seeking to obtain a Governor's Rendition Warrant to extradite him to Minneapolis for charges.
Martinez's cause of death will be released in the coming days.
