Suspect in veteran hit-and-run case bailed out of jail
The suspect accused of killing an Army veteran in a hit and run accident near Hinckley is out on bail shortly after he was charged in the case.
KARE 11 reports that Derek Sanders, 31, of Wyoming, Min. was released from the Pine County Jail. On Friday, prosecutors charged Sanders with criminal vehicular homicide. Police believe that he struck and killed Trevor Langlois, 24, on June 17.
Langlois' father is upset that Sanders was apparently able to post bail.
"I can't believe the court saw fit to give him that kind of bail, that he could easily obtain and be right back out on the street," said Brian Langlois.
According to the complaint, Sanders admitted to police that he had been drinking.
"I had too many. I shouldn't probably have been in my truck. Half a dozen or so ... I don't know," he allegedly told the investigator. Sanders denied knowing that he had hit a person.
KARE 11 phoned what appeared to be the home phone number for Sanders but the woman who answered hung up.
