A homicide investigation has resulted in the arrest of a suspect in east-central Minnesota.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Don Lorge says the investigation began around 10 p.m. Monday after a sheriff's deputy and an Onamia police officer found the subject of a welfare check dead inside a residence located at 200 Pony Farm Road E. in Onamia Township.

On Tuesday, Lorge announced that a person had been taken into custody, with the Star Tribune reporting that he is a 30-year-old man from Randall, Minnesota, with a violent criminal history, including serving a four-year prison sentence for third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The man has not yet been charged, but jail records indicate he is being held on suspicion of intentional murder.

The victim's body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine a cause of death. The male's identity has not been released.

The murder scene is being processed by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office.
