Investigators in north Minneapolis are searching for leads after someone fired into a group of people Tuesday evening, injuring three, including a 14-month-old girl.

FOX 9 reports the toddler, My'Khalea Smith, her uncle, 17-year-old Javar Smith, and a pregnant woman, 19-year-old Trenay Garner, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

KARE 11 said the woman, who was shot in the leg, is nine months pregnant and is expected to give birth any day.

The 14-month-old was shot in the chest. Family members told KARE 11 that doctors opted not to remove the bullet lodged in toddler's chest and she'll likely be released from the hospital Wednesday.

Both Garner and Javar Smith, who was also shot in the leg, are out of the hospital.

Police say around 5:30 p.m., the group was standing around a parked car near the intersection of 29th Street and Lyndale Avenue North when a man began shooting at them and then fled.

The Star Tribune says neighbors gathered on street corners as police tracked down shell casings and interviewed witnesses.

"I heard it was a young one, I wanted to come and pray," Mary Johnson, whose 20-year-old son was murdered on the city's north side about two decades ago, told WCCO. “We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired of turning on the news and hearing someone else’s child has been shot.”

"This is serious. You’ve got three victims that were shot in broad daylight and and it’s a high priority for the police department,” police spokesperson Cyndi Barrington told reporters.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to call police at 612-692-8477.
