The search for a suspect who tried to run down a cop St. Paul overnight is ongoing Tuesday morning.

The incident unfolded just after 2 a.m. when two officers stopped a driver in a stolen vehicle in an alley near the intersection of Winter St. and Capitol Blvd. N. During the stop,  the driver of the stolen vehicle fled and tried to run over one of the officers while doing so.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

The other cop fired at the vehicle, but the driver got away.

Police were able to locate the stolen vehicle on the 700 block of Prior Ave. – approximately three miles west of where the incident occurred – and a search for the suspect is ongoing.

It's unclear if there was anyone in addition to the driver inside the vehicle, but police say there are no signs that anyone was injured or struck by gunfire.

The officers involved have been placed on standard paid administrative leave.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation and no further information has been released.
