Suspect wanted in ND killing found under stairwell in Moorhead
After hours of searching on Tuesday, law enforcement in Moorhead arrested a 25-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in North Dakota.
Officials had described Oscar Junior Andujar Ortiz as "armed and dangerous" and possibly in Moorhead, with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation saying he was wanted in connection with a killing that happened Sunday in Killdeer.
Law enforcement attempted to arrest a man they believed to be Ortiz Tuesday morning, but the man fled, leading to hours of searching.
Police at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday took him into custody without incident after a day-long investigation, a news release says. He was found under a stairwell of an apartment building in the 500 block of 32nd Avenue South, Moorhead police said. They also recovered a handgun in the area.
Ortiz will be held at the Clay County Jail pending extradition to North Dakota to face charges.
The Moorhead Police Department worked with the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Homeland Security.
