A man wanted in connection with a shooting and carjacking in St. Paul on Monday was shot dead by police in St. Cloud on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened just before 6 p.m., according to St. Cloud Police, when officers located the suspect in a vehicle on the 2200 block of Division Street West.
The suspect, who police say also had an active warrant for aggravated robbery, was then "blocked in" using an armored vehicle, with officers then trying to arrest the man.
It was as the officers approached that police say "the man exited the vehicle with a firearm," prompting officers from the three agencies at the scene – St. Cloud PD, St. Paul PD, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) – opened fire.
Lifesaving efforts were then attempted, but the suspect died at the scene.
A woman who was in the car with him was also injured in the shooting, and was treated at St. Cloud Hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening.
No officers were injured in the incident.
