Suspect who pleaded guilty in Christopher Rossing's death sentenced

Robert Nuttall was sentenced to 22 years in prison Friday in connection with the death of a missing Wright County man, WCCO reports.

Nuttall pleaded guilty earlier this month to second-degree unintentional murder in the disappearance of 25-year-old Annandale man Christopher Rossing.

The charges against Nuttall said he had fought with Rossing outside Troubles bar in Howard Lake just before Rossing vanished on Aug. 23, 2014. A few months later, investigators found remains in a fire pit near Nuttall’s home.

They were so badly burned that only bone fragments and teeth were discovered, with tests revealing they were likely Rossing’s. Wright County Attorney Tim Kelly said because of their condition, authorities could not positively identify it as belonging to Rossing.

“We simply were not able to provide the whole story,” Kelly said after the guilty plea. “We could tell part of the story, but did not have the evidence to tell the whole story. The family of Christopher Rossing is upset with the negotiated plea and they have every right to be upset."

KARE 11 reported Nuttall previously said he'd only intended to “harm” Rossing, not kill him, and that he admitted hiding the body to “conceal the unintentional murder.”

Also charged in connection with Rossing's death is 33-year-old Gwen Butcher, KDUZ reported. She's facing charges of second-degree aiding and abetting murder and second-degree aiding and abetting kidnapping.
