Eagan Police Department confirms that a 36-year-old man from Eagan was taken into custody after fleeing the scene after the crash reported shortly after 7 p.m. on Lexington Avenue near Diffley Road.
The driver was traveling in a 2002 Honda Civic at a high-rate of speed when he broadsided the back end of a 2017 Honda Civic, causing his own vehicle to flip on its roof.
The suspect fled into a nearby wooded area, only to emerge from the woods as police were setting up a perimeter.
Neither the suspect nor the driver of the 2017 Civic or their front-seat passenger sustained any serious injuries in the collision.
The suspect is facing a series of charges, including 1st-degree DWI, criminal vehicular operation, and DWI refusal to submit to chemical test.
He is also facing charges for driving after a canceled IPS (Inimical to public safety). His license had been revoked following three past DWIs – misdemeanors in 2007 and 2011, and a gross misdemeanor in 2015.
He was also charged with driving after a canceled IPS in 2017.
