Thirty-six hours after a double shooting left one man dead and another person injured in Bemidji, authorities have arrested the suspected gunman.
"[The suspect] has been arrested in connection to the homicide that occurred on 2/17/20," Bemidji Police Department said. "All of the tips and assistance from the public are greatly appreciated. Together we are working to keep our community safe."
Bemidji PD originally said that the 18-year-old suspect should be "considered violent and dangerous" and should not be approached by the public.
The shooting happened sometime prior to police being called to Sanford Hospital in Bemidji at 10:26 p.m. Monday on a report of a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Minutes later, Beltrami County dispatch reported that a man had been shot outside a residence in the 1100 block of Minnesota Ave.
Police and deputies responded and found a 20-year-old victim dead at the scene.
The suspect was believed to have fled the area on foot while in possession of a handgun.
A motive for the shooting has not been made public, nor have the identities of the victims been released. The 17-year-old victim's condition is not known.
