A man is dead and another is in stable condition after shots were fired in South St. Paul early Monday morning.
Witnesses informed South St. Paul Police Department officers that a gunman fled on foot following the shooting, which happened just prior to 4 a.m. on the 600 block of N. 17th Ave.
Officers arrived at the scene and found two men who'd been shot, both with "traumatic injuries. Both victims were transported via ambulance while lifesaving treatments were provided, however one of the shooting victims died at the hospital. The other man was listed in stable condition, according to police.
Officers and police K-9s searched the area for over an hour but didn't find the suspect, but the man who is believed to have pulled the trigger was located in the lobby of a local motel, where he was arrested and taken into custody at the South St. Paul Police Department.
Circumstances leading to the shooting have not been released, nor have the identities of the victims and suspect. Local police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the case.
