Suspicious item at Walmart in Inver Grove Heights was not an explosive

The store was evacuated around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, but is expected to reopen on Wednesday.

The suspicious item that led to the evacuation of a Walmart in Inver Grove Heights was not an explosive device, the Inver Grove Police Department said Tuesday night.

Police responded to the store at 9100 block of Cahill Avenue at 7:28 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a suspicious item in the business and evacuated shoppers and workers from the store "out of an abundance of caution," a news release said.

The St. Paul Police Department's bomb squad responded and determined the item wasn't an explosive device and it disposed of the device, police said

Walmart remained closed for the rest of Tuesday night.
