A 42-year-old Chisago City man was arrested without incident following a standoff with a SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team early Tuesday morning.
According to Lakes Area Police Department, officers were called to a home in Chisago City around 2:30 a.m. on a report of a suicidal man with a handgun, and it was learned that the man had taken video of himself discharging the gun inside the home.
Negotiators had "sporadic" contact with the man during the night before the situation was resolved peacefully around 8:30 a.m.
Criminal charges are possible, the police department notes.
A SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team are at an active scene in the City of Chisago Tuesday morning.
The Chisago County Sheriff's Office provided few details, only saying they are "actively working an incident" around Matthew Drive at Sportsman Drive.
That area is entirely closed off, with the sheriff's office asking everyone to stay away.
The sheriff's office also noted it has been in contact with the Chisago Lakes School District and the Chisago Lakes Bus Garage, though according to Google Maps there isn't a school in the immediate vicinity of the incident.
The Chisago County website says the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) is generally called in when there are armed, barricaded or suicidal subjects, when a hostage may have been taken, or when there is another crisis that threatens the safety of the community.
The neighborhood appears to be strictly residential, with a senior living center just to the east and a farm to the north.
We'll update this story when we have more details.
