Seventy five service men and women from the Midwest got a sweet surprise upon their return to American soil Saturday night.

"This is amazing. We definitely didn't expect this at all. We came around the corner and a bunch of Girl Scouts and cookies and coffee – you can't really ask for anything more," Capt. Daniel Gimm told WCCO.

Two Girl Scout troops from Minnesota and Wisconsin welcomed the 461st Engineering Company of Fargo as they landed at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, KSTP reports. They were coming home from the Dominican Republic, where they were working on a humanitarian project, WCCO says.

The Girl Scouts made signs and gave each service person two boxes of their famous Thin Mint cookies and some caribou coffee.

The cookie donation is part of the Girl Scouts' Operation Cookie Care Package program – the girls collect money to donate boxes of cookies to military organizations, according to the organization's website.

Nationwide, people donated 27,000 packages of cookies to members of the armed forces and their families this year, KSTP says.

Up next for the 461st Engineering Company – they will head to Fargo, North Dakota for training exercises, KSTP reports.
