Target Corp. is extending its online price-matching program introduced this past holiday season, the Associated Press reports. The Minneapolis-based retailer says its stores will now price match some top online competitors year-round, including,,, and Target stores will also match prices on items found at

“Guests can confidently shop at Target every day for the best value in retail,” Gregg Steinhafel, Target Chairman, President and CEO, said in a news release. “We know that our guests often compare prices online. With our new Price Match Policy and the additional five percent savings guests receive when they use their REDcard, Target provides an unbeatable value.”

The move comes a week after Target reported disappointing December sales at stores open at least a year.

Target stores first began matching online prices of select competitors on Nov. 1. That initial offer ended on Dec. 16.

Big-box retailers like Target are combating "showrooming" -- when a customer checks out items at stores and then buys them online for a lower price.
