Of the 133,000 extra staff Target is hiring ahead of the holiday season, 8,000 of them are in the Twin Cities metro.

The Minneapolis-based retailer has announced national hiring events will be held this weekend and the first weekend in November, as it seeks to fill vacancies at its stores and distribution centers.

The events will be held at Target stores across the country this Friday to Sunday, Oct. 11-13, as well as on the weekend of Nov. 2-3.

Applicants will be able to meet Target store leaders and interview on the spot between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. local time each day.

You can also apply in advance online at TargetSeasonalJobs.com to select a specific interview time.

Target has increased its minimum wage for staff including seasonal workers, who will now earn at least $13-an-hour.

Seasonal staff also get 10 percent discounts in Target stores and at Target.com, and a 20 percent discount on fruits and vegetables, Good & Gather Organic products, and C9 Champion apparel.

It comes as Best Buy prepares its own hiring events to take on thousands of workers ahead of the holiday rush.
