Target is hiring 100,000 workers for the holiday season
Target is gearing up for a huge Christmas, announcing it'll be hiring 100,000 seasonal workers for the holidays.
The Minneapolis retailer will increase its seasonal workforce by 40 percent over last year, with 100,000 new temporary employees being hired in the coming months.
They will be split between Target's 1,816 stores to cover the busy holiday period, including Black Friday, while a further 4,500 workers will be hired to staff Target's distribution and fulfillment centers to handle online orders.
“Target has made significant investments in our business throughout 2017, and our commitment to hire 100,000 team members for the holidays will make shopping at Target even easier and more fun during one of the busiest times of the year," Janna Potts, chief stores officer, said in a news release.
Those hired wll be given "meaningful opportunities to build and develop skills," Potts added, as well as getting "great benefits" including Target's 10 percent merchandise discount for employees, and 20 percent on fruits and vegetables and "Simply Balanced" food.
Last year, Target hired 70,000 seasonal workers for the holidays, which Reuters reports represented a "cautious" hiring number as retailers braced for competition from Amazon.
Hiring events for the 2017 holiday season will be held from Oct. 13-15 at stores nationwide, and will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
