Target to sell west campus office, 1,300 staff to move to Brooklyn Park

Target is putting its "west campus" office up for sale and will move 1,300 workers over to Brooklyn Park.

The retail giant informed its workers Thursday morning that its offices next to I-394 on the border of St. Louis Park and Minneapolis would be put on the market this fall, with employees moving over to its "north campus" mid-2016.

Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder told BringMeTheNews that the decision followed a "strategic look at our corporate real estate."

As part of its ongoing restructuring, the company has made more than 2,000 layoffs at its downtown Minneapolis headquarters so far this year, but there is no indication at this stage that the sale of the west campus will lead to more staff cuts.

Target recently added an extra 650,000 square feet of space in Brooklyn Park, which will accommodate the 1,300 workers joining the 2,000 staff currently at the north metro office. According to the Business Journal, the west campus totals 425,000 square feet.

Those moving over are part of Target's retail and financial products team, including those who work on its REDcard service.

The Star Tribune reports there had been rumors that the company was planning on selling its Brooklyn Park campus, too – but Snyder told the newspaper the company is committed to that location and its downtown headquarters.

Target employs around 7,000 people downtown, where it has around 3 million square feet of office space, between three buildings it owns and two it leases.

Target's west campus is valued at around $15 million by Hennepin County, the Business Journal notes.
