Target's free shipping minimum goes up – right when Amazon's goes down

You'll have to spend more for free shipping on orders.

The past week has seen significant moves from two of the country's biggest retailers, with Amazon and Target both changing the minimum purchase price for free shipping online.

At the start of the year, Amazon required a $49 minimum purchase for free shipping for non-Prime members. Now it requires just a $25 minimum after making its second price cut in three months, BestBlackFriday reports.

The change to $25 brought it level with one of its main rivals, Target ... well, at least it did for a few days.

That's because Target made its own change on Sunday, not reducing the free shipping minimum but increasing it. Online shoppers now need to spend $35 to get free standard shipping that takes 3-5 days to arrive, as reported by the Star Tribune.

The newspaper notes that Target's free shipping minimum had been $25 for a couple years as it tried to encourage customers to buy online.

REDcard holders will continue to get free standard shipping for online orders no matter how much they spend.

Walmart also requires a $35 minimum spend, but it offers 2-day shipping to customers, beating Target's delivery time.

And standard shipping from Amazon takes longer than that offered by Target and Walmart, with estimated delivery times of 5-8 days.
