Site selection team scouts Twin Cities for corporate HQ

A team from Archer Daniels Midland visited St. Paul this week to check out the area as a possible site for the company's headquarters. Last month, ADM announced plans to move out of Decatur Ill., to a larger city with a greater talent pool and easier access to air travel.

The Business Journal quoted unnamed sources "with knowledge of the situation" who said that officials from GreaterMSP met with representatives of the global agricultural giant to discuss a move. ADM was founded in Minneapolis more than a century ago.

Other cities under consideration for the headquarters include Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Houston..

NBC Chicago reported that the Windy City's chances of landing the headquarters may have been damaged last week when Ill. Gov. Pat Quinn threatened to veto any bill that provided corporate tax breaks before the state's pension problems are addressed. Chicago, which is already home to 200 ADM employees, had been considered a leading contender for the headquarters.
