A 17-year-old boy is in custody in connection with the death of his 5-year-old brother.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says the arrest was made in the 300 block of 2nd St. SW. in Eyota on Monday afternoon.

They found the boy in an upstairs bedroom not breathing. He was later pronounced dead at Mayo Clinic St. Marys, with asphyxiation the suspected cause of death.

The boy's older brother was arrested. There were four other children in the house at the time, but no adults present.

"The 17-year old suspect did provide a statement to investigators which solidified the probable cause to arrest," the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said.

The boy is facing 2nd-degree murder charges and is being held at Dakota County Juvenile Detention Center. He is expected to be charged and named on Wednesday.

The victim has not yet been identified.
