A 19-year-old pedestrian was killed near the city of Wyoming in Chisago County this weekend.

It happened on I-35 shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday night.

According to the State Patrol, the pedestrian, identified as Emmanuel Alessandro Lemus-Soto of Spring Lake Park, was standing on the stripe dividing the two southbound lanes when he was struck.

Two cars hit him one after the other, and he died at the scene.

The patrol says alcohol was a factor in Lemus-Soto's actions; however, neither driver is suspected of drinking.

How he came to be on I-35 is unclear at this stage, and authorities have released few other details about the incident.

So far this year, there have been over 260 traffic fatalities in Minnesota — last year there was a total of 381 traffic-related deaths.
