Teen dies after being thrown from car, hit by another

It happened in Winona County on Sunday.

A 15-year-old girl was killed when she was thrown from a rolling vehicle and hit by another car.

The incident happened on I-90 in Winona County just before midnight on Sunday, when the 16-year-old driver of Toyota RAV4 fell asleep at the wheel.

Gao Jer Vang, 15, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, was in the back seat of the SUV and wasn't wearing a seat belt, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Toyota left the road before rolling, throwing Vang from the vehicle, before she was struck by an eastbound Ford Fusion.

She died from her injuries.

Another passenger in the Toyota, 17-year-old Nhia Thao, also of La Crosse, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was wearing his seat belt.

The names of the driver and another 16-year-old male passenger have not been released.

They are being treated at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
