Teen dies from injuries sustained in crash with suspected drunk-driver

Erika Cruz was involved in a vehicle crash in Rochester Tuesday night.

A GoFundMe for a Rochester teenager killed in a crash Tuesday has raised more than $8,000.

According to KAAL, Erika Cruz was traveling east at around 10:22 p.m. when a driver went through the intersection of 12th Street Southeast and 8th Avenue in Rochester and struck Cruz’s vehicle.

Both vehicles were sent into a pole at the intersection before hitting a fence near Lincoln Elementary School.

Cruz was sent to the hospital following the crash but was in critical condition when she arrived. Cruz has since died, according to the GoFundMe.

The driver appeared to show signs of intoxication and faces possible charges of criminal vehicle operation, according to KAAL.

Money raised from Cruz’s GoFundMe will help her parents pay for funeral expenses. The fundraiser has surpassed its $5,000 with around $8,150 as of Thursday morning.

"Erika was such a beautiful, inspiring, smart young adult,” the GoFundMe reads.
