A teenage girl was found tied up on the side of a northwestern Minnesota road, and told police she had been abducted.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the 17-year-old girl was found on the side of the 410th Avenue Southwest in Bygland Township, south of East Grand Forks, by a local resident at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The girl reported being abducted and brought to the location where she was found. She was checked and cleared by paramedics brought to the scene.

"Polk County Deputies are actively investigating this incident," the sheriff's office said, adding it is "working to determine if there is a current threat to the public or if this is an isolated incident."

Police have issued an appeal to witnesses who saw anything suspicious while driving south of East Grand Forks on Hwy. 220 between Hwy. 2 and Thompson Bridge. Anyone with information should call 218-281-0431.
