A student at a Fairmount, North Dakota school was rushed to the hospital after he attempted suicide in a classroom Thursday morning, the Associated Press says.

Authorities say the freshman walked to the front of the classroom and shot himself in front of seven other classmates and a teacher, WDAY reports. The boy's condition has not been released.

The Forum says the shooting happened just ten minutes into freshman algebra class. The boy handed his girlfriend a note and told the teacher "I'm sorry" before the shooting.

School officials would not comment on a motive, but said they don't believe the boy was bullied, according to Valley News Live. School will resume Friday as normal with counselors on hand.
