The 19-year-old woman who fell from a sixth-story window of a University of Minnesota dormitory Saturday and died several hours later has been identified as Stephanie Ann Lehr of Minneapolis.

Lehr, who wasn't a student at the university, was visiting a friend at Mark G. Yudof Hall on the university's East Bank.

University Police say a 3-by-4-foot screen, which is not intended to be taken off, had been removed from the window. Lehr was attempting to reach a nearby gravel rooftop about three feet away when she fell.

The Star Tribune said it's unclear if Lehr fell on her way out to the platform or coming back in.

WCCO said it's about 100 feet from the window to the ground. Police have determined the fall was accidental.

Around 4:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the courtyard on the northwest side of the residence hall where Lehr was still conscious. She was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center and died around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police found alcohol in the dorm room, but it's still unclear if Lehr consumed any of it. Toxicology results from an autopsy will determine if alcohol or drugs played a role.

A university spokesperson told the Star Tribune that the roof, which houses mechanical equipment, is also accessible by a door on the sixth floor.

KARE 11 said students living in residence halls were notified of Lehr's death by email. Counseling resources are being provided by the university.
