Teen wounded in 'accidental shooting' in Moorhead
An 18-year-old man is undergoing treatment after being shot in what police say was reported as an "accidental shooting."
Moorhead police officers arrived at the home on the 1900 block of 41st Avenue South at 1:15 p.m. Friday to find the teen with a single gunshot wound to his lower abdomen.
Police recovered a small-caliber rifle at the scene, with the victim taken to a local hospital.
Despite it being reported as an accidental shooting, the person responsible for it had left the scene by the time police arrived, and since officers weren't sure of the nature of the shooting, they set up a perimeter and used K9s to try and track them down.
The person responsible was not found however.
The incident sparked a lockdown of the nearby S.G. Reinertsen Elementary School during the K9 search, with officers placed near the school as a precaution.
Police continue to investigate.
