Teenager fatally struck by Northstar train in Coon Rapids

Authorities are investigating after a teenager was fatally struck by a train in Coon Rapids Friday evening. 

It happened around 6:45 p.m. in the area of 119th ave. NW and the double railroad tracks near Northdale Blvd. NW, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Coon Rapids Police and Metro Transit PD responded and found one teenage victim dead at the scene. 

The victim's identity has not been released. 

The sheriff's office reports that a northbound Metro Transit Northstar Commuter Train carrying was involved. There were approximately 50 passengers aboard the train at the time. 

Passengers were transferred to Metro Transit buses. 

The incident is being investigated by Coon Rapids Police Department, Metro Transit Police Department, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office. 

No additional information was provided.
