Temps to climb near 40 degrees this week; cold returns next weekend

We've got another few days of warmer-than-normal temperatures before cold air returns for the weekend.

The temperature in the Twin Cities reached 41 degrees Saturday afternoon, which was the warmest January day since 2012, Paul Douglas wrote on the Star Tribune's weather blog.

The temperature dropped a little bit Sunday as some snow fell overnight, and there's a slight chance of snow for parts of Minnesota Sunday night – including the Twin Cities, southeastern Minnesota and the Northland – which will likely change over to freezing drizzle ahead of the Monday morning commute, which could make for some icy road conditions, National Weather Service notes.

The mercury is expected to rise again Monday, with warmer temperatures sticking around through the middle of the week – highs could be close to topping 40 degrees Monday-Wednesday, reports note.

But there are signs of a colder weather pattern developing by the weekend, KARE 11 notes, with highs in the 20s by the weekend.

But it may get even colder for the first week of February – Douglas is predicting a wind chill of minus 15 degrees for Super Bowl Sunday.
