The preliminary damage estimate for a Thanksgiving Day fire at a bar in Biwabik has been put at $100,000.

KBJR in Duluth reports that fire departments from six northeastern Minnesota communities responded to the blaze at the R Bar and Sauna. Flames in the two-story building were detected by a passerby at around 5:30 a.m.

WDIO added that crews shut down Main Street for several hours in order to fight the fire.

"Upon arrival, the officer located a fire in the rear of the building. They determined that there was nobody in the building and that it had been vacant for a period of time," said Gilbert Police Chief Ty Teachar.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that firefighters from the Iron Range communities of Biwabik, Aurora, Gilbert, Lakeland and Biwabik and Fayal townships responded to the scene.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
