An Apple Valley man faces two misdemeanor charges after authorities say he sped past a stopped school bus, nearly hitting a young student about to board near Hawick, Minnesota. Allen H. West was charged in Kandiyohi County District Court this week with two statute violations – both relating to illegally passing a school bus.

Former Last Place on Earth owner sentenced to more than 17 years in prison

The former owner of a head shop who was convicted last year of illegal synthetic drugs has been sentenced to more than 17 years in prison. The Duluth News Tribune reports the former owner of the Last Place on Earth James Carlson, 57, also faces three years of supervised release and a $25,000 fine.

Cat's out of the bag: Lynx kittens debut at Minnesota Zoo

Four playful Canada lynx kittens made their public debut Thursday. The kittens, two boys and two girls, were born at the Minnesota Zoo on May 6 – it was the zoo's third litter of lynx in five years.
