The 5 best hip-hop album covers of 2016

Rappers gave us quite a bit to look at!

Say what you will about the rest of 2016, but the hip-hop this year was great -- especially the album covers.

Here are our five favorites from the past 12 months.

5. D.R.A.M. - Big Baby D.R.A.M.

A cover art should convey the essence of an artist, and for D.R.A.M. (who we're also giving hip-hop's Best Smile of 2016) and his poodle, a picture says a thousand of the happiest words ever spoken.

4. Atmosphere - Fishing Blues

There's a lot to unpack here with a football-uniformed Slug and suited lifeguard Ant on a cold beach, and the months of questions we still have about it after Fishing Blues' release speaks to how compelling of a shot is featured.

3. Lil Yachty - Lil Boat

Arguably rap's most polarizing and controversial figure, the one thing we can all agree on is that the cover of Lil Boat is great. Perhaps this is indicative of why the rapper (whose name is NOT short for Lillian Yachtelford) began his verse on Chance the Rapper's mixtape with, "Am I the only one who really care about cover art?"

2. Boosie Badazz - Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas

A late addition, but a great one. It has been wonderful having Boosie back in 2016, especially having him home for the holidays with the cover of Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas. It's a fun traditional holiday card with one of the coolest chains we've ever seen!

1. Drake - Views From the Six

Perhaps the most iconic hip-hop image of 2016 is Drake was Photoshopped atop Toronto's CN Tower. After a massive 2015, this was the shot of a King on his throne, one of his hometown's most iconic images.
