Trevor Shelley, 22, has been sentenced to 150 days in prison for punching and nearly killing Isaac Kolstad in 2014.

Earlier this year, Shelley – the second person charged in connection with the fight – pleaded guilty to assaulting the former Minnesota State University football player.

He, along with former Gophers quarterback Philip Nelson both faced charges of felony assault, from the May 2014 fight outside a bar in Mankato.

According to Fox 9, prosecutors had asked for a year-long prison sentence, and Kolstad's family was disappointed Shelley got less than half that.

Shelley must also pay a $732 fine, according to the Mankato Free Press. That's one dollar for every day since the attack.

Nelson, who was accused of kicking Kolstad in the head once he was on the ground, was sentenced to 100 hours of community service after pleading guilty to fifth-degree misdemeanor assault last year. Felony charges against him were dropped.

Those charges have been settled, but Kolstad is still dealing with the effects of the attack.

At the sentencing, the husband and father of two said the scar on his head always reminds him of what happened.

He also said there's tasks he is not able to do for his family, like drive a car.

Last fall, Kolstad graduated from a six-month rehabilitation program. It helped him improve his concentration and communication skills.
