The start date for that nine-month closure on Highway 169 is TBD

It keeps getting delayed.

Highway 169 won't be closing Tuesday, either.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation had planned to close the highway on Jan. 10, but snow pushed back the start date to Jan. 17.

Now the project is being delayed again because MnDOT has to wait for a utility company to remove its property from the construction area, MnDOT said in an email update last week.

The agency hasn't determined when it will close, although Dave Aeikens with MnDOT told KARE 11 they're shooting for Jan. 23.

But if the nine-month project gets delayed any longer, it risks not getting finished before winter, KARE 11 notes.

MnDOT's plan is to close Highway 169 from Bren Road to Lincoln Drive while crews remove the Nine Mile Creed bridge. Throughout the project, various ramps and lanes will also be closed.

Nearly 90,000 drivers who cross the bridge each day will have to find another way to get around, the Star Tribune said, which means traffic on nearby highways and interstates like Highway 62, Highway 100, Interstate 394, Interstate 494 and smaller highways will be affected through the fall, MnDOT said.
