We now know where Gov. Mark Dayton's 2016 State of the State address will be.

The when and where was released by the governor's press secretary, Matt Swenson, on Twitter.

That's March 9, 7 p.m., at the University of Minnesota's McNamara Alumni Center.

We knew the general "when" already. Dayton last week said the speech would come March 9, MPR reports, though with renovations happening in the state Capitol, the "where" wasn't clear.

The McNamara Alumni Center opened in 2000. The building's Memorial Hall is the largest room – it fits about 800 people for a reception, and about 500 for theater seating or seated dining, the website says.

The speech is essentially the governor's opportunity to lay out a vision for the upcoming legislative session . Lawmakers are scheduled to get back to the Capitol March 8, at which point the bill proposals, committee meetings and voting will get going.

The address is held in front of a joint session, meaning all members of the state House and Senate should be there.

The state Legislature website has a compilation of State of the State addresses dating back to 1857.
