There's only 1 Old Country Buffet left in Minnesota

And then there was one...

Burnsville is the only place left in Minnesota where you can fill your bellies with all-you-can eat Old Country Buffet after the closure of two more restaurants this week.

Diners heading to the eatery in Duluth's Miller Hill Mall were met with a "CLOSED" sign at the entrance, the Duluth News Tribune reports.

It was the same in Mankato, with the Mankato Free Press reporting the Adams Street location was shuttered, coming in the wake of parent company Ovation Brands earlier this year filing for its third bankruptcy protection since 2008.

(Update: There's an auction for a bunch of leftover items from those two locations that runs until noon Thursday.)

The closures appear to have been an unpleasant surprise for workers as well, who were told to return between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to pick up their last paycheck.

The Free Press adds OCBs in Rochester and St. Cloud closed last week, which in turn followed the closure of 92 locations – including seven in the Twin Cities – this past February.

The Star Tribune reports two more Twin Cities locations – in Coon Rapids and Maple Grove – followed soon after.

That leaves Burnsville as the only remaining location in the state where the chain got its start, having been founded in Eagan in 1983.

Locations shutting across the country

The latest closures have affected OCB locations across the country, with reports of restaurant shutdowns coming from Wisconsin, Washington, Michigan, Illinois, South Carolina and Maryland.

The Duluth News Tribune reports it had already shuttered 400 restaurants in the eight years previous to this year. At its height it had 650 locations.

Consumerist reports a group of former employees at one of the Illinois restaurants have filed a lawsuit against Ovation Brands for ending their employment without any advance notice.
