At 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, a line of 15 people stood outside the new Chick-fil-A restaurant in West St. Paul – 24 hours before it is due to open.

No, these diners don't have an insatiable lust for chicken (there are other Chick-fil-As in the Twin Cities after all). They are in line because of a promotion the chain runs every time it opens a new restaurant.

The first 100 people who line up in the 24 hours before a new eatery opens it doors get free Chick-fil-A for a year, with the competition open to adults living in the immediate area.

As you can see from the pictures, more than a dozen were in place on a dark Wednesday morning, and came prepared for the long-haul.

Those who join the line throughout the day will also qualify for the one-year supply of Chick-fil-A meals, provided they are within the first 100 to arrive.

The offer isn't an "all-you-can-eat" kind of deal, or even an "eat-what-you-want" deal. Winners will be given a digital offer card that entitles them to 52 meals consisting of a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, waffle potato fries and a medium drink.

Charlie McLure, the franchisee of the eatery at 1770 Robert St. S, is providing games, entertainment and food for the campers, with a dance party due to start at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The Atlanta-based chain has three Twin Cities restaurants, in northeast Minneapolis, Bloomington and at Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. This will be the first Chick-fil-A in the east metro.
