Thick, thin, any slice you like: Giordano's among new pizzerias opening this week

If you're living in the Twin Cities and counting on getting a pizza in 30 minutes or less this week, you might want to order an appetizer.

That's because two popular pizzerias are making their Minnesota debut this week, and the anticipation is likely to create some long lines.

In Minneapolis's Uptown neighborhood, the highly anticipated Chicago favorite Giordano's will open on Wednesday at 4 p.m., which happens to be right smack-dab in the middle of the restaurant's happy hour, City Pages notes.

According to Giordano's website, the pizzeria was opened by Italian immigrants on the Windy City's south side in 1974, later earning nods from the likes of the New York Times as "Chicago's Best Pizza."

The announcement of the opening date ignited plenty of local excitement, as these Tweets can attest:

Meanwhile, St. Louis Park will get a slice of California when Blaze Fast-Fire'd Pizza opens there on Thursday, according a news release on MarketWatch.

The Irvine-based chain is known for its "generously-sized" build-it-yourself personal pizzas, which are toasted to perfection in an open-fire oven in just three minutes, the release says.

And in what is sure to be a jam-packed scene the next day, the pizzeria (which has 72 locations across the country) will offer free personal pizzas to people who follow it on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

The restaurant will be located in the Shoppes at Knollwood off Highway 7.

Polito's eyes Mankato

South of the metro, a Wisconsin-based pizza chain is hoping for a slice of Minnesota success.

Polito's Pizza, which touts itself as "Home of the Big Slice," is in the process of leasing a space on South Front Street, the Mankato Free Press reports.

Polito's owners tell the newspaper that Mankato has "more pizza shops per capita than anywhere else in the country," but they're confident their pies will stand out from the crowd.

They hope to open by late September.
