'Thin Blue Line' flag stolen from memorial to fallen MN officer
A Thin Blue Line flag has been stolen from a memorial to a Minnesota police officer who died in the line of duty.
According to a Facebook post from the Wabasha County sheriff, the flag — a modified American flag and a symbol of support for law enforcement — was taken overnight on Wednesday, July 1:
The memorial, located in Lake City's Ohuta Park, honors Shawn Schneider, a local police officer who was shot in the head on a domestic disturbance call in 2011.
According to the Star Tribune, he was killed while helping Alan J. Sylte Jr's 17-year-old ex-girlfriend escape from the suspect's house; Sylte was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with police.
Anyone with information about the theft of the flag is asked to call (651) 565-3361. The sheriff says tips can remain anonymous.
