This abandoned mink just landed a job as an educational ambassador

Someone probably had the mink as a pet then abandoned her.

Just a few weeks ago this adorable mink was lying in the middle of the road, cold and not moving much. Now she's getting ready for her new job as an educational ambassador.

Wildwoods Wildlife Rehabilitation in Duluth posted to Facebook earlier this month saying a woman found the animal and brought her to them.

After warming up and getting plenty of love, meat and attention, the little weasel-like critter was back to her curious self. Just watch this adorable video of her exploring.

The rehabilitation center says the animal is pretty tame and probably had been someone's pet. She could have been taken from the wild, or even rescued from a fur farm.

But since minks are wild animals, she probably got a little nippy with age. That's probably why her previous owner abandoned her.

Since the animal had been kept as a pet, she didn't know how to survive in the wild.

"Please don’t ever do this!" Wildwoods says. If you release any animal that's been raised as a pet it "will die a cruel death."

So this mink is getting a second chance as an educational ambassador for her species. Wildwoods says she will show people “the face behind the fur,” and be an example of how wild animals don’t make good pets.

Wild animals aren't pets

Wildwoods stresses that people shouldn't keep wild animals as pets.

Wild animals are wild. It's as simple as that.

All too often, people make these animals pets just because they're cute and unique, only to find out they're too much to handle.

Just like Silver the Fox who was passed around to different homes before eventually being surrendered and taken to a wildlife sanctuary in Canada.
