This week in music: Crow makes first of 3 Minn. summer concert stops

The summer of Sheryl Crow for Minnesota music fans begins Friday as the nine-time Grammy winner plays the first of three scheduled concert gigs planned here over the next three and a half months.

Crow will play the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, Minn., Friday night, before she returns to Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake June 28 and headlines Macy's Glamorama with Cirque du Soleil at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis Aug. 2.

The rocker Crow is marking her first foray into country music with her new single "Easy," and gave the crowd a taste of things to come as part of the Ten Man Jam concert in Royal Oak, Mich. A country-flavored album from the artist is forthcoming.

The Oakland Press said Crow ran away with the show in its review of the February concert, saying even her co-headliners were fawning over her on stage.

As for her potential as a country artist, Country Weekly says in a review of "Easy" fits right in with the country radio format, but there's "nothing extraordinary about the song." Still the publication said, "Vocally, Sheryl is in her usual fine form and sounds totally comfortable here."

American Songwriter reviewed her debut performance of the song on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in January, which they said didn't feel out of the ordinary for the singer.

"Those expecting drastic changes may not see the big deal here," critic Jim Beviglia wrote. "Maybe the rest of the album will dial up the twang to another level, but 'Easy' sounds like Sheryl Crow absolutely in a comfort zone, and that’s always a good thing."
