An 11-year-old boy appeared in juvenile court Thursday, suspected of writing a threatening message on the wall of the timeout room at Jacobson Elementary School in Rush City.

WCCO reports investigators from the Chisago County Sheriff's Office concluded that the fifth-grade student wrote the message a week ago and that it indicated an "intention ... to harm other students."

FOX 9 reported the student's family said the boy was bullied at school and copes with severe PTSD from a previous family situation.

The Star Tribune said the student was released to his family after he was charged with disorderly conduct in juvenile court. He was taken to the East Central Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Anoka and the case was sent to the county attorney for possible charges.

Arresting a child for such an offense “does happen,” Chisago County Attorney Janet Reiter told the newspaper.

The boy is scheduled to make another appearance on Feb. 6.

Earlier this week, a threat closed Southwest High School in Minneapolis and led to a lockdown at Washburn High School..
