Tim Dolan's last day as Minneapolis police chief Friday

After five years on the job, Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan is stepping down from his post Friday. Dolan will be replaced Assistant Chief Janee Harteau, who will be the first woman to front the Minneapolis Police Department.

After five years on the job, Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan is stepping down from his post Friday, KSTP-TV reported.

The City of Minneapolis says on Dolan's watch, violent crime dropped 42 percent from 2007-2012, the lowest level in nearly 30 years.

Dolan will be replaced Assistant Chief Janee Harteau, who will be the first woman to front the Minneapolis Police Department.

Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak nominated Harteau to replace Dolan last month.

The Star Tribune posted a slideshow of a Dolan being honored Friday for his accomplishments.

Mayor R.T. Rybak has nominated Janee Harteau to be Minneapolis' next Chief of Police. The 25-year veteran of the department would be the city's first female police chief. Harteau is currently an assistant to Chief Tim Dolan, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Minneapolis Police Chief calling it quits

Chief Tim Dolan has notified Mayor R.T. Rybak that he will not seek a third term. His current contract expires in January of 2013. Dolan has been the city's Police Chief since 2006 and joined the department in 1983 after working as a deputy for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department.
