An 18-month-old boy is in a critical condition in a hospital, and his caregiver has been arrested in Braham, Minnesota.

Police were called to a house on the 200 block of Beechwood Avenue South just after 1 p.m. to a report that the tot was in medical distress.

Officers administered aid to the child until paramedics took over, with the child taken to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis with "grave injuries."

The caregiver was interviewed, with police saying that the explanation of what happened "was not consistent with the severity of the injuries."

The caregiver has been arrested and faces further questioning.

Braham is a small city located about 60 miles north of Minneapolis, on the border of Isanti and Kanabec counties.
