Tow truck crashes into Woodbury police vehicle, officer injured

The tow truck slammed into the back of the police vehicle on I-494.

A Woodbury police officer was seriously injured when the vehicle he was in was rear-ended by a tow truck on Friday. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened just before 2 a.m. when a Ford tow truck traveling north on Interstate 494 drifted off the road and slammed into a Woodbury police vehicle, a 2016 Ford Explorer, that was stopped in the center median working traffic enforcement at Tamarack Drive. 

Officer Bryan Wager, 30, of Woodbury, suffered injuries in the crash that are not considered life-threatening. He was transported to Regions Hospital for care. 

“Woodbury Public Safety, Officer Wagner and his family appreciate the outpouring of support," Woodbury Police said in a statement. "The extent of Officer Wagner’s injuries are still being determined. We will work with MN State Patrol to provide updates about the crash as information is available." 

The driver of the tow truck, a 45-year-old man from Oakdale, suffered minor injuries that did not require transportation to a hospital.
