A husband and wife are opening a new store on Grand Avenue in St. Paul Saturday.

Dan Marshall and Millie Adelsheim actually opened Mischief Toy Store Oct. 1 in the St. Anthony Park area. That came after the duo closed Peapods Natural Toys & Baby Care, which they had owned for 16 years.

Marshall told BringMeTheNews Mischief had a great holiday season. With that, the owners felt like it was time to move into a bigger store.

So they bought an old Victorian home at 818 Grand Avenue and decided to make it their new shop.

Previously located in an old hardware store, Marshall says the new store will be a better experience for the shoppers.

Each room will have a different theme. There's a collectables room, a room for all the puzzles and another room that is just for candy.

Overall, it will be pretty much the same store they opened in October. It's just bigger and has a bunch of new items.

Mischief will still feature toys and games for people of all ages, but it's mostly geared towards teenagers and young adults.

Marshall notes that it can be hard to find gifts for people in that age range, as many stores primarily cater to younger children. He says Mischief is a place people can go to buy gifts – not just gift cards – that young adults will love.

He adds that a lot of parents come in looking for gifts for their children and leave with something for themselves or their spouse.

People can find anything from art supplies and jewelry, to games and anime gifts. The store also features an international candy selection and sodas that are hard to find, like Japanese Ramune.

The owners put a lot of consideration into cultural perspectives when choosing what they'll sell. Marshall says they try to think beyond the suburban middle class and put together a store anyone can enjoy.

He says many of their toys and comics feature strong female characters. And that their book collection features all sorts of young adult stories. Not just those about vampires.

There will be a grand opening celebration on March 17. Marshall says they're planning an Easter egg hunt for kids ages 10 and up. Teenagers and young adults are welcome too. The owners say there will be prizes and booby-trapped eggs.

Mischief will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays.
