How many more stories about the lingering winter and chilly spring of 2013 are we going to have to write?

At least one more: Snow was spotted in the wee hours of Thursday morning in Bemidji, FOX 9 reported.

The National Weather Service says light snow fell, but did not accumulate, in Bemidji between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. It was in the 30s there early Thursday.

FOX notes that the latest recorded measurable snow in Minnesota is 1.5 inches at Mizpah, in north-central Minnesota, on June 4, 1935, according to state records.

Temperatures remained below normal in much of Minnesota Thursday. It wass unlikely that the cloud-weary Twin Cities would hit 60 degrees on Thursday, forecasters said. It was in the 30s in International Falls early Thursday.

A WCCO photojournalist even spotted ice floating on the Mississippi River, although it wasn't clear if it was from an overturned picnic cooler, or whether it was a late-breaking piece of ice from the spring thaw.

“It’s definitely possible with the spring we had,” WCCO's Mike Augustyniak said. “Especially if that ice came from a north facing area in northern Minnesota, where it’s been chilly.”

But good news: Thursday should be the last in a long string of below-average temperatures, KARE 11 reports.

For Friday, temperatures in the metro are expected to climb into the low 70s, and the sun might make an appearance. Expect high temperatures of about 70 on Saturday and Sunday, with thunderstorms possible during the weekend.
