Tragedy on the St. Croix: 10-year-old boy drowns in river at state park

He was confirmed dead at Regions Hospital.

A 10-year-old boy has died after going missing in the St. Croix River at the William O'Brien State Park on Friday.

The tragedy unfolded just before 3 p.m., when police were called to the state park in Scandia after the boy went missing in the water.

The search continued for more than an hour, with the boy found under the water just before 4:30 p.m., at which point lifesaving efforts commenced immediately.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office received confirmation at 7:30 p.m. that the boy had been pronounced dead at Regions Hospital.

Assisting with the search was the Washington County Fire Rescue and Dive Team, Minnesota DNR, and the Washington County Water Recovery Team.

At this stage, the boy's identity has not been released.
