Jurors have found Jeffery Trevino guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of his 30-year-old wife, Kira Steger.

WCCO TV reports, that the jury has found Trevino guilty on one count of second-degree murder without intent, and not guilty of second-degree murder with intent.

According to the Star Tribune, the jury of eight men and four women deliberated Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Deliberations then resumed shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, and went through lunch, before announcing the verdict was reached around 5:30 p.m.

Steger last was seen alive on Feb. 21 while on a date night with Trevino at the Mall of America. He reported her missing to police on Feb. 24, and her body was recovered from the Mississippi River on May 8.

Prosecutors say that Trevino killed Steger at their home, because she was having an affair and wanted out of the marriage. They say he then tried to cover the murder up by dumping her body in the river, and leaving her car at the Mall of America.

The defense claimed there was not enough physical evidence to prove that Trevino killed her. Defense attorney John Conard did not call a witness, and Trevino did not take the stand.

KARE 11 reports, that Trevino is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 25. He could face a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
